Join us at Speech Prosody 2026

This week, we will have two posters and a talk at the Speech Prosody 2026 conference (Philadelphia, USA). If you’re around, or are attending online, come and find out about multimodal prosody!

Oral and poster presentations

We have one talk by Matteo Maran and two posters, one by Patrick Louis Rohrer and another by Floris Cos. The proceedings papers are already available from the links at the bottom of this page.

Floris’ poster

Floris will present his poster on Wednesday May 27, 14:35-16:00 (local time; 20:35-22:00 Dutch time). The title is Assessing the effect of beat gestures on the perception of lexical stress in full Spanish utterances. This study tested if simple manual movements can guide lexical stress perception in full Spanish sentences. Here’s a short teaser:

Matteo’s talk

Matteo’s talk is scheduled for Wednesday May 27, 10:20-11:40 (local time; 18:20-19:40 Dutch time). The title is Beat gestures facilitate lexical access in quiet and degraded speech. It shows how simple flicks of the hand have a meaningful impact on spoken word recognition, both in quiet and in noisy listening conditions.

SPOILER: Matteo already pre-recorded his talk, given the hybrid conference format. Watch it in full right here:

Patrick’s poster

On the last day, Patrick will present his poster on Friday May 29, 14:35 PM - 16:00 (local time; 20:35-22:00 Dutch time). The title is Rapid Prosody Transcription as a tool to assess the perception of phrase-level prominence in Mandarin. This study tested how acoustic prominence is perceived in a Rapid Prosody Transcription task in native Mandarin participants.
